The Municipality of Aalborg’s Startup Housing

 

Startup Housing is available to students commencing a study programme in Aalborg Municipality. It ensures that you will have temporary accommodation if you have not secured housing before the start of your studies.

We will provide you with a place to stay until you find permanent accommodation as soon as possible. The guarantee is valid from the beginning of the academic year in mid-August and for four months thereafter.

You will be offered accommodation at Hytteøen Aalborg, operated by Tabu Catering ApS, and Aalborg Municipality will subsidize part of the accommodation costs.

To be covered by the guarantee, you must meet all conditions established by Aalborg Municipality.

It is very important that you familiarize yourself thoroughly with the rules and conditions, as you will not be covered by the guarantee unless all requirements are met.

Below, you can read about the eligibility requirements, accommodation arrangements, and how to book your stay.

 

1. Eligibility Requirements

• The guarantee is available only to students who live outside Aalborg.
  
  
• To qualify for accommodation under the scheme, you must genuinely be actively seeking housing.
  
  
• You must accept any dormitory or youth housing offered by Studiebolig Aalborg that is within your financial means, both before and after moving into accommodation provided under the guarantee.

 

1.1 Active Housing Search – What Does It Mean?

• You must be registered as an applicant with Studiebolig Aalborg. Your applicant number is required when booking accommodation.
  
  
• You must also actively search for private rental housing. As long as private housing remains available, you must first attempt to rent one of these properties. Once no private housing remains available, Studiebolig Aalborg will provide information about booking accommodation at Hytteøen Aalborg.
  
  
• You must accept any dormitory or youth housing you have applied for through Studiebolig Aalborg if it is offered to you, both before and after moving into accommodation under the guarantee.

Note: If you are offered a preferred dormitory, youth housing, or housing under the housing guarantee at a time when you have not yet been offered admission to a study programme, declining the housing offer will not prevent you from using the Startup Housing later.

 

1.2 After Moving into Accommodation Under the Guarantee

If Studiebolig Aalborg Offers:

• A Housing Unit, you must accept the housing offer if you are using the Startup Housing. Otherwise, the guarantee will cease from the date on which the offered housing could have been occupied.
  
  
• A Preferred Dormitory or Youth Housing Unit, you must accept the offer. Otherwise, the guarantee will cease from the date on which the offered housing could have been occupied.
  • Your application with Studiebolig Aalborg will remain active, but the refusal will count as a rejection.

• A Non-Preferred Dormitory or Youth Housing Unit, You must accept the offer if it is within your financial means. Otherwise, the guarantee will cease from the date on which the offered housing could have been occupied.
  • “Within your financial means” means, following an individual assessment, rent equivalent to the rent you would have paid for a dormitory room for which you have applied through Studiebolig Aalborg.
  • Your application with Studiebolig Aalborg will remain active, and the refusal will not count as a rejection with respect to your housing application.

 

Important: Please note that Aalborg Municipality may terminate your coverage under the Startup Housing with one week's notice if you do not accept an offered dormitory or youth housing unit, or if you do not actively seek private housing.

 

1.3 Follow-Up and Monitoring

Aalborg Municipality and Tabu Catering ApS conduct ongoing checks to verify that you continue to meet the conditions of the Startup Housing.

If you fail to meet the conditions, the municipal subsidy will be withdrawn, and you must either pay the full accommodation rate (DKK 200 per night) at Hytteøen or move out.

 

2. Accommodation Arrangements

2.1 Accommodation

• Temporary accommodation is primarily provided at Hytteøen by Tabu Catering ApS.
  
  
• Cabins normally accommodate up to four people.
  
  
• During peak demand periods, accommodation may be provided elsewhere. In such cases, up to six people may share a cabin.
  
  
• Cabins are furnished with bunk beds, a dining table seating four people, shelving, and a small refrigerator.
  
  
• The cabins are located in an area that hosts weekend events with music, large crowds, and higher-than-normal noise levels.
  
  
• Residents will, as far as possible, be assigned cabins located furthest from the event area.
  
  
• Residents are responsible for cleaning their cabins during their stay.
  
  
• Storage space is very limited, and each resident should expect to have room for only one suitcase.
  
  
• No special storage facilities are provided for valuables or personal belongings.
  
  
• Duvets and pillows are provided; residents must bring their own bed linen.
  
  
• Accommodation assignments are made by Tabu Catering ApS. Residents cannot choose among available units.
  
  
• Residents are required to move to alternative accommodation if requested by Tabu Catering ApS.

 

2.2 Sanitary Facilities and Shared Amenities

• Residents have access to a sanitary building containing a shared kitchen and separate bathroom and toilet facilities for men and women.
  
  
• During periods of high occupancy, waiting times for both kitchen and bathroom facilities may occur.
  
  
• During events held in the event area, access to kitchen facilities may be restricted (Fridays and Saturdays).
  
  
• The kitchen is equipped with limited facilities, including an oven, stove, microwave, and coffee machine.
  
  
• Residents are encouraged to bring or obtain any necessary kitchen equipment, such as pots, pans, crockery, and cutlery.
  
  
• Users are responsible for cleaning shared facilities after use.

 

2.3 Questions or Problems Regarding Accommodation

3. How to Book Accommodation Under the Startup Housing

You must make a reservation before arriving at Hytteøen.

Accommodation must be booked no later than the day before your arrival. However, if you are arriving on 31 August (immediately before the start of the academic year), you must make your booking no later than 26 August.

Bookings are open from 1 August to 15 September.

Your stay at Hytteøen must be continuous and without interruption.

The total accommodation cost is DKK 200 per night:

• You pay DKK 125 per night.
• Aalborg Municipality provides a subsidy of DKK 75 per night.
• The subsidy is paid directly to Tabu Catering ApS by Aalborg Municipality.
• For your first booking, an additional booking fee of DKK 265 applies.

3.1 Booking Procedure

You will need your applicant number to make a booking.

You can find your applicant number as follows:

After creating your application on the Studiebolig Aalborg website, you will receive a username and password that allow you to log in to your application. When you log in, your applicant number will be displayed.

You must book and pay for a minimum of six nights at a time (plus the DKK 265 booking fee for your first reservation).

Your first reservation must be made via email to: kontakt@tabu-catering.dk. Your email must include:

• Your full name
• Your applicant number
• Your email address
• Your telephone number
• The number of nights you wish to book

Please note: You will not receive a refund if you move out before the end of the booked period, even if you are offered permanent accommodation earlier than expected.

You will subsequently receive an email containing a payment link.

If you wish to extend your stay, you must notify Tabu Catering ApS no later than two days before your current booking expires.

The reduced accommodation rate is made possible through co-funding from Aalborg Municipality, which initiated the Startup Housing.

If your applicant number is not registered alongside your name, you will be required to pay the full accommodation cost yourself. Remember that you must also comply with all conditions of the guarantee in order to receive the subsidy.
